See the web site for a full write up on their accomplishments.  Congratulations all!

Racing/USATF

After finishing first at the Frostbite 5-miler in the opening event of the 2019 Grand Prix series, PCVRC finished 3rd at the intensely competitive Adrenaline 5K last weekend, leaving us 3rd overall.  Fantastic running by Mike DiGennaro, Bill Farquhar, Zach Chupa, Greg Cauller, Tom Steenkamer, Bob Mason, Dave Wiechecki, Sarah Rusk, Matt Cutrona and Betty Olmstead!

Next up on the road – Valley Forge, April 28th.  Tyler Arboretum 10K is next on the trails, April 6th.  We are always looking for folks to join our team(party!) and run for (with) us!

2019 marks the return of the USATF Club National XC Championship races to the Lehigh University campus on the first weekend in December. Clubs from all over the country compete as teams running cross country courses with distances of 6k for women, and 10k for men. In 2014 the club chartered a coach bus to take over 60 club members to this event.  We are hoping that we can bring another large group of runners to this famous XC venue and have a great day of running and socializing!

Running Study – participants needed

From: Patrick Corrigan [mailto:]
Sent: Wednesday, March 20, 2019 10:13 PM

We are currently recruiting for a study at the University of Delaware that evaluates the effect of Achilles tendon injury on running performance. For this study we are looking for runners who either currently have Achilles tendon pain or have had pain within the past year. Based on your past participation in one of our studies, I thought you might be interested. I’ve provided a general description and outlined the eligibility criteria below. If you’re interested, you can either reply to this email or fill out our interest survey (https://goo.gl/forms/1UjHd7p2NX4kYiyA2). Also, if you know someone else who may be interested, feel free to pass it along.

Description:
The study includes two sessions that are separated by 2 weeks. The first session takes about 1.5 hours and includes questionnaires, ultrasound imaging of your Achilles tendons, and a clinical evaluation performed by a licensed physical therapist. The second visit takes about 3 hours and includes imaging techniques that measure how stiff your Achilles tendons are and a 30-minute run on a treadmill while your running mechanics are analyzed with a 3D motion capture system. For your participation, you will receive a $50 Amazon gift card, a Zwift RunPod (~$30 value), and a detailed report of your running mechanics.

Eligibility Criteria:

·  At least 18 years old

·  If female, not currently pregnant

·  No history of Achilles tendon rupture

·  Achilles tendon symptoms (e.g. pain and stiffness) currently or within the past year

·  Able to run for at least 30 minutes 2 times per week without stopping or walking

·  No history of orthopedic surgery to your lower body (e.g. total hip/knee replacement, meniscus surgery)

·  No other injuries to the lower body within the past year (e.g. plantar fasciitis, IT band syndrome, Runner’s Knee) that stopped you from running for more than 1 month

Thanks,
Pat

But the FIRST USATF event is the Frostbite 5-miler in Ambler on February 23rd. Sheri and I are signed up, are you?
Dirk

Subject: Broad Street Run Lottery

Club reps
I have confirmed with the Broad Street administration that they will again honor our membership with guarantee entry to the Broad Street members who do not qualify through the lottery. Individuals must be USATF members thru today (entry is tomorrow). Lottery window closes Feb 15. At that time forward to me quickly the CORRECT name (that which they used to enter the lottery), club name and USATF membership #. I’ll give it a couple days to collect info from you and then forward the list to Broad Street. I don’t plan to revisit this after I send the list to Broad Street so please stay on your membership.
Sincerely
Billy Wright

1/12/19: USATF Team Recap & 2019 Schedule

Hi Pike Creek Runner!  This is a special issue focused on the USATF competitions and our running team.  All runners are encouraged to join USATF and run under the PCRVC banner!

The following is from Tom Steenkamer, our racing Chair:

Happy New Year everyone,
We are 1 week away from the start of the 2019 USATF race season with the first trail race of the off road series.

There are a few changes to the series this year with the start of the season coming in January with the Chilly Cheeks 11k on January 20th and the absence of the Radnor Red Steeplechase in August (race discontinued).  The race schedule is located here – http://mausatf.com/off-road-events/

The road series returns in February with the Frostbite 5 miler in Amber, PA on February 23rd .  This year’s race schedule is unchanged from 2018. The race schedule is located here – http://mausatf.com/grandprix-events/

2018 was a great year for the club with a 3rd place finish in the road series, and 2nd place in the off road series!

I need to emphasize that the 2018 results were built on the legs and feet of a small number of individuals. Specifically we had 6 individuals compete in 10 or more races between the 2 series.  These runners were doing this to support the club and not because they wanted to run every race (2018 season had 7 Off road events and 9 Road events).

In order to get to Lehigh in December we need increased participation in both the off-road and road series races for 2019.

To those of you who have been frequent participants of the race team – a huge thank you and reminder that it is time to renew your USATF memberships for 2019.

For new members – those who expressed interest in joining the USATF at the club holiday party we need you to complete the USATF membership process by joining USATF and declaring your affiliation with PCVRC, club number 08-0025.

USATF membership application is located here – https://www.usatf.org/membership/application/index.asp

I have been providing race team coordination for club for the past 6 years. We have had great successes during this time but I can no longer dedicate myself to this role. 2019 will be my last season as USATF coordinator.  Can you take on this role?  The club needs someone to step into this role and I am happy to help with the transition process.

Happy running and I hope to hear from all of you interested in joining our team.
Tom Steenkamer
