Dr. Jim Bray has been a club member for many years and is a regular participant at our Sunday group run and Tuesday Track Workouts. On Sundays, he’s always ready to lead new people on a run/walk.
Jim was inducted into the Delaware Track & Field Hall of Fame for being “the foremost miler in the state schoolboy history, having run a 4:15.7 at the New Castle County Championships in 1972.” Jim held the Delaware high school mile record for 28 years before it was broken in 1999. He helped Newark High School to a state championship in 1971. In 2024, in a News Journal article, he was listed as #15 of “The 30 greatest high school distance runners in First State history.”
It’s always handy to have a podiatrist as a running club member and Jim is happy to offer free consultation to runners. In fact, years ago when I was having Achilles tendon issues, he had me drop in to his Main Street Newark office between his paying patients to make me heel lifts, which worked well!
Jim’s signature race over the years has been the VA 5K Memorial Run at the Lebanon VA Medical Center, which he’s run almost every one of the race’s 38 years! He is also a regular at Newark’s Reindeer Run each December.
Besides the club events that he regularly attends, Jim often socializes with members, including regular invitations to attend his annual Thanksgiving Dinner. In fact, he and his wife Jo cooked for at least 8 of us this past November.
Pike Creek Valley Running Club is happy to welcome Jim Bray into our Hall of Fame!
