Thursday Group Run + Pizza & Beer

TIME: Run at 6 PM then Eat & Drink at 7

WHY: A social get-together and event to introduce prospective members to the club!
PCVRC hosts group run/walks at Delcastle every Wednesday and Thursday evening at 6 p.m. On August 28th Ray Christensen is hosting the walk and then a pizza/beer/soft drinks party at his house just steps from the park. (No word on whether he can see Russia from his house.) Pike Creek will provide beer/soda/water & pizza. Members and prospective members are welcome to run, eat & drink. We’ve held this event for the past ten years on the Thursday before Labor Day Weekend.
You are not required to bring anything, but bring a couple lawn chairs if handy. Sides, cookies and/or wine won’t be turned away.
Ray’s Yard is located at 2630 Crossgates Dr. Wilmington, DE 19808 (see location info at http://www.pcvrc.com/eventlistitem.php?id=70). The Delcastle group runs are held at the entrance just south of Duncan Road, right near the tennis courts.

Dan Feeney
Kevin Tresolini of the News Journal profiled our own Dan Feeney. Dan competed in the Luray International Triathlon’s Olympic Distance event on Saturday and then competed in the Sprint Distance event on Sunday! Read all about this amazing athlete here. USATF Coaching School
The USATF is hosting a Coaching Education School on October 17-19 at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY. Pike Creek Valley Running Club will help subsidize any paid member interested in beginning coaching or looking to improve their coaching skills as well as network with fellow coaches. HAC Plunge & Run
Kelly Jones coordinated another successful event, adding a kids’ run this year! Mark this on your calendars for next year. You don’t have to be a member of the Hockessin Athletic Club to participate. Great job Kelly!
PCVRC’s Delaware Distance Classic 15k/5k

Registration is now open for the 32nd Annual Delaware Distance Classic 15K & 5K presented by New Balance Brandywine & Christiana and M&T Bank. We invite you to run with us!
When: 9:00am start, Sunday, October 12, 2014 (race day registration opens at 7:30am)
Where: Clinton St and Battery Park, DE City, Delaware. Plenty of free parking.
15K Cost: $35 (before Oct 5); $45 (starting Oct 6, including race day); 5K Cost: $25 early; $30 late

The Course: This new 15K (9.3 miles) course is USATF-certified, flat and fast. The loop begins and ends on Clinton Street in downtown Delaware City and runs out into the historic Fort DuPont and onto Cox Neck Road. This race serves as the 2014 Mid-Atlantic USATF 15K Championship and is part of the Mid-Atlantic USATF Grand Prix running series. It is one of the oldest races in Delaware, started by the Pike Creek Valley Running Club as the Pike Creek Classic 15K in 1983.
2014 Highlights: The 15K race will feature $750 in prize money; 5-year age categories, plus random and middle-of-pack awards. Each participant will receive a quality long-sleeve technical shirt (from New Balance), other giveaways, and post-race refreshments at Crabby Dicks. We will have an Awards Ceremony, Sponsor Exhibits, and Music with a live DJ. We invite you to stay and tailgate with us! Plenty of free parking in and around the start and finish.
Charity Proceeds will go to the Mike Clark Legacy Foundation and local Delaware City charities

Pike Creek continues to field competitive athletes. Let’s see how we did!
Sheri Sweigart and Lisa Polizzi Jalot competed in the Hood to Coast Relay in Portland, Oregon, as part of the Nature Girlz team. Their team won the Master’s Division, running 200 miles in 24:36:21, a 7:26 per-mile pace! Amazing job ladies!
