Radnor Red Run Steeplechase 5k
I was asked to send a special edition about the Radnor Red Run Steeplechase 5k (say that five times fast!). This is not your usual 5k in that there are several obstacles including a water jump! Please go and enjoy yourselves just don’t wear your best (or newest) pair of shoes!
All ages are welcome and online registration closes tonight. (Day-of registration will be available.) You don’t have to be a USATF member to participate but that is how Pike Creek gets to compete as a team with a team score. Pike Creek also gets money back at the end of the year that allows us to fund memberships for runners who participate in four or more USATF events a year. (See the Pike Creek Valley Running Club Membership Fee Structure and Renewal Policy item below.)
Please RSVP to Tom Steenkamer at to let him know if you can participate as a USATF runner. You must be a current USATF member to be included in the team score.
PCVRC Annual Summer Barbecue
Rachel organized a wonderful picnic and Ryan & Rich Szymanski manned the grill. A great time was had by all. Here are some pics.
Thanks again to Rachel for organizing the picnic and our wonderful cooks Ryan and Rich! Apologies for the pictures overloading people’s e-mail boxes. Am working on a way to shrink the pictures but keep them looking nice.

Race Results, Reviews and Accomplishments:
Had some good results this week and fun pictures!
John Schultz placed 2nd in his age group at the Half-Wit Half Marathon Trail Race on Sunday, finishing in 4:19:31! The race is difficult. As John put it, “Very hilly. Lots of rocks and roots. One of the ‘attractions’ is 128 crumbling stone steps up a hillside.” Better you than me, John!
Jim Durkin competed in the Musikfest 4-miler point-to-point on August 4th, finishing in 38:39. It started at Canal Park in Allentown and followed the towpath of the Delaware & Lehigh Canal. (I might be doing the Delaware & Lehigh Heritage Half-Marathon in November. I wonder if that covers any of the same ground?)
Theresa Cannon-Kauffman participated last evening in the last running this year of the High Peaks Cyclery Monday Night Mini-Triathlons in Lake Placid, NY. She swam 400 yards, biked 12 miles and did a 3-mile run in 1:19:01, placing 3rd in her age group! Sounds like good practice for St. Andrew’s Sprint-Tri next year. She swam in Mirror Lake, site of the swim portion of the Ironman race. I sense a race in her future!

USATF
From Tom Steenkamer:
It’s that time again the last USATF off-road event of the summer is this Sunday, 8/17, @ the Radnor hunt club. The Radnor 5k Steeplechase race time is 9AM and day of registration is available. NOTE to all USATF members : I have received only 1 confirmation at this time – we need 5 competitors to score at this event.
Calling all XC runners:
Looking ahead on the 2014 USATF calendar we have a unique opportunity to participate in the USATF Club National Cross Country Championships this fall. This is an annual event that rotates locations around the US. This year the XC championships will be hosted by our local Mid Atlantic USATF organization at the Lehigh University cross country course on 12/13/14. The scoring is standard cross country format (order of finish) counting the finish place of the top 5 runners from each club. Races will be scored in 10 year age groups. I hope to build upon the fun and success our men’s 50 yr. old team had last year at the USATF Masters XC championships. We want to support men’s and women’s teams in the 40 and 50 year old competitions. We need a minimum of 5 in each age group to participate as a team. (I would love to field open teams (under 40) as well!)
Looking to hear from all the harriers out there soon!
