PCVRC Member Meeting
We have reserved the meeting room at Newark Library for Wednesday, May 15th, 6:30- 8:00 for a new benefit for members – a running meeting! Dr. Ray Feehery (well-known podiatrist, New Castle Associates in Podiatry) and Jamie Graham (owner/manager of New Balance, Certified Pedorthist) will there to talk about running footwear and transitioning to barefoot/minimalist running. Jamie will be on hand to offer shoe advice. This is a chance to meet other members and learn about this important topic – should you be trying this? What experiences have others had? What should you watch out for?
Space is limited, so we request RSVP’s. Club members can send them to Paula Jermyn at
Delaware Marathon…
Save the dates for the Delaware Marathon weekend (May 11th and 12th). PCVRC is going to have a table at the expo where we will promote the club and its activities including the new Couch to 5K (C25K) program. We are planning to have some of the new PCVRC gear at the table too. Anyone interested in helping out at the table should contact Claire () for details. As always, volunteers for all aspects of the races are needed. There will be several club members helping out with registration/packet pick-up. We had a lot of fun doing this last year and we intend to again this year so come join us!
…and Delaware Marathon Course Marshals
If not running or volunteering at the finish, please contact Ray if you can help along the course for any period between 7:15am and 12:15pm on May 12th. You’ll be making a difference, since it’s difficult to man so many street corners. Keep friends and visitors safe! Contact Ray at or 302-633-1482.

USATF news, from Tom Steenkamer
The USATF spring racing season has been busy lately and I have been a bit tardy with providing team updates.
We are approaching the end of the “Spring Race Gauntlet” – three weekends, three races. PCVRC has competed in the Valley Forge 5-miler, the Triple Crown 10k trail race, and this weekend is he Broad St. 10-miler.
Valley Forge, April 21 (review by Meggan Hain)
Sunday April 21st dawned cool and breezy. A small crew from PCVRC headed out to the Main Line to run the Valley Forge Revolutionary 5-miler, which was a marvelous way to see the Valley Forge National Park. The team included: Rich Szymanski, Meggan Hain, Claire Neilan, Hugh Campbell and Epi Comacho. Everyone was feeling ready to run as we stretched behind General Washington’s camp huts to keep out of the chilly wind. The race started along the main ridge with a lovely view of the park.
In total there were 943 participants which made for a decent field but fortunately there was plenty of space to get running. The race course ran along the tar road of the park winding up and down the rolling hills between the wood and open fields in a gentle loop. The final mile included a long downhill followed by a steep-up hill just to tax the legs before a sprint finish. Overall the course was fast with several people getting PR’s, Epi taking 1st in his age-group and Hugh Campbell hitting his target of finishing under 50 minutes (49:44) and also winning second in his age-group (75-99).

Triple Crown 10K, April 27
Last Saturday, the club competed on our “home” course in the Triple Crown 10k trail run at White Clay Creek State park. The course is one of our favorites, with not too many rocks, roots and a mild dose of hills. The weather was perfect and PCVRC had a strong showing. Running with “fresh legs” after their Boston Marathon run two weeks ago, the club was led by strong performances by Andy Jakubowitch and John Costello, 4th and 7th overall respectively. Overall the club had a good day and enjoyed strong participation with 14 club members completing the 10k. There were even a few hardy souls who couldn’t get enough and followed up the 10k by completing the 5k as well – congrats to Trish and Lori.
With such a beautiful spring morning the team enjoyed the post-race BBQ which developed into a post-race tail gate in the parking lot. Good times indeed.
Official scoring for the trail race has not been completed. Based on a quick review of the results the club should solidify its 3rd place position in the trail series.
