PCVRC Boston Marathon Send-Off
From Rachel Perkowski:
Please join us on Wednesday, April 15th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Catherine Rooney’s in Wilmington as we celebrate those participating in the 119th Boston Marathon.
This is an annual club event that allows us the opportunity to congratulate those who have worked so hard throughout the year to qualify to run the infamous Boston Marathon.
Like most club events, this event is included as part of your membership. Non-club members are more than welcome to attend; all that we ask is that a donation is made to help with the cost of the food.
Anyone that would like to join the club or renew their current membership may do so on the night of the Send-Off. We hope that you will join us as we wish those who are running the best of luck!
Any questions regarding this event can be forwarded to
The Boston Marathon send-off party is a week from today, April 15th! Come send off our runners in style and blow off steam from tax day!
We had a phenomenal turnout for the first C25k session! Many thanks to Darlise and Joel for leading the coaching and all the other members who helped out! More in the C25k section below.
I’m adding a recurring section to the e-newsletter about our group runs. If you ever need a reminder of when we meet and/or where, just go to the section above the membership info for handy information and links!
Information on volunteering for the Delaware Marathon is included. Ray Christensen leads a course marshal/cheerleading contingent at Kentmere & Bancroft Parkway. If you want to join his group sign up on the website shown in the section below and pick Kentmere & Bancroft Parkway Area from the Sunday Course Marshals page.
Couch-to-5k Spring Session
I haven’t been to every C25k session but Monday’s class was the largest by far that I’ve ever been to! Awesome job Darlise and Joel! Thanks also to Amy Temple, Paula Jermyn, Ben Mack, Lori Culnane, Daniel Wipf and Caitlin Reilly for coming out to help coach and participate!
The Newark Reservoir (map) is on Old Paper Mill Road, just east of Paper Mill Road and just north of Timothy’s (where the Christmas party was held). If you missed the first session you’re still more than welcome to come out and walk or run! See you there!

Delaware Marathon Volunteers
From Sue DeNardo:
This year we have been working on a website to make the Delaware Marathon volunteer sign-up process easier for you (and your team). It is now live, so please take a look and, if you are a group captain, encourage your volunteers to do the same. Here are a few tips to help you out:
– The website link is dmrf.ivolunteer.com
– Saturday packet pickup, water stops, and several of the course marshal spots are broken into shifts. If you plan on covering that spot all day, please register for both shifts.
– For course marshals, the spots that are critical are listed separately so that we can make sure they are filled. All other spots are listed under an “unassigned” section that will be assigned as we get closer to race day. When registering for an unassigned spot, you may request a specific location. If you have questions about a preferred location, please email me.
– Once signed up, the volunteer will receive a confirmation email to which he/she will need to respond. Once that step is completed, the slot assignment is secured.
– Please have everyone in your group register through this website. It will enable us to communicate via email regarding parking, updates, etc.
Questions? Please contact me at or 302-690-9345. Please let us know of any glitches, suggestions, unclear information, etc as you go through the process. And please, encourage others to volunteer.
Thanks so much. We couldn’t do it without you!!

Race Results, Reviews and Accomplishments:
There were several big races but not a lot of submissions. If you did anything noteworthy we want to hear about it and brag on you!
Dan Wipf ran in the Rumspringa Half-Marathon on Saturday, finishing 1:57:47. The conditions were SLIGHTLY different than at the Shamrock Half (more hills and wind this past weekend) but, despite that, Dan only missed his PR time by six seconds! He went from never running a sub-2-hour half to doing it twice in a row! Fantastic job Dan!
Mark DeNio (your humble editor) completed his first 5k since last August’s injury, walking the Race Judicata course in 1:01:57! That’s a good 10 minutes off my usual pace but a lot better than I thought I would do for having such a long stretch off, especially because I could only do one 1.75-mile lap at Delcastle Park two days prior. Training starts for the Bird-in-Hand Half this September!

Group Runs
PCVRC hosts 3 group runs every week. You are welcome to come to any and there is no cost to attend!
Sunday Morning
Sundays we meet at 8 a.m. in Newark, in front of Panera Bread on Main Street (map). A group usually socializes at Panera afterward but that’s totally informal, based on who shows up and what people’s training plans for the day are.
Wednesday and Thursday Evenings
Wednesday and Thursday nights at 6 p.m. people meet at Delcastle Park (map) near the tennis courts. (That’s on McKennans Church Road just south of Duncan Road.) Delcastle Park has a 1.75-mile path marked in 0.25-mile increments. It’s wide enough so people can walk in either direction. This is nice for variety as each direction definitely offers its own challenges.
Pike Creek Valley Running Club Membership Fee Structure and Renewal Policy
The current dues are $25 per membership, which includes family members and significant others, and covers membership for the calendar year. The renewal period runs from October 1st through March 1st.
