Couch to 5K program
PCVRC, in collaboration with New Balance, is offering a Couch 2 5k program to members and non-members (so tell your family and friends)! Whether your goal is to walk or run a 5k, we have the group for you.
For those interested in running a 5k, come meet with the group on Mondays starting May 6th at the Newark Reservoir. The contact people for this group are Paula Jermyn and Darlise DiMatteo. If walking a 5k is your goal, that group will meet on Thursdays at Delcastle Recreation area starting May 9th. The contact person for this group is Jamie Graham. Both groups will meet at 6pm. Get in touch at
We will start with general introductions and a brief discussion of that night’s workout. You will also receive that week’s training plan for you to follow on your schedule, although we would love to see you at any of the other group runs/walks. Incentive prizes will be given out for those who complete all 9 weeks of the running program or 8 weeks of the walking program. There is no cost for non-club members for the first 3 sessions. We hope that after meeting new friends and getting a glimpse of what PCVRC can do to help you reach your fitness goals, you will join the club before the 4th session. Currently, our target races are the B+ on 6/20, the Nun Run on 9/14, and DDC 5K on 10/6. Please note- this is a rolling schedule. If you cannot make the kick-off meetings, your week one will start when you come out and meet us. Look for registration forms in April. Spread the word!
BBQ & Beer Tasting Event for B+, from Jim Steele
I have arranged to have a special event at Twin Lakes Brewery on RT 52 just north of Greenville. Twin Lakes will provide a tour of the brewery and allow us to “taste” beers for 3 hours. Along with the tasting, I will have a BBQ provided by the Slower Lower BBQ team. These guys compete in sanctioned KCBS events and have won several awards over the past few years. I promise they’ll provide some outstanding BBQ, including pulled pork, brisket, etc. Trust me, I’ve had a lot of it!
When: Sunday, April 14th 3-6pm
Where: Twin Lakes Brewery, 4210 Kennett Pike, Greenville, DE 19807
How much? $42.20 per person (why? 42.2K equals 26.2 miles)
RSVP to by April 7th to get your tickets!

Delaware Marathon
Save the dates for the Delaware Marathon weekend (May 11th and 12th). PCVRC is going to have a table at the expo where we will promote the club and its activities including the new Couch to 5K (C25K) program. We are planning to have some of the new PCVRC gear at the table too. Anyone interested in helping out at the table should contact Claire () for details. As always, volunteers for all aspects of the races are needed. There will be several club members helping out with registration/packet pick-up. We had a lot of fun doing this last year and we intend to again this year so come join us!

Inaugural Runners Marathon and Half Marathon of Reston, VA
Deidra Tuxen (full) 4:01:32 (1st in age)
William Human (half) 1:49:57
“It’s a very scenic course, but very hilly. Considering it was the inaugural event, it was very well run… started exactly on time and lots of course support. Overall, a nice race within a 2.5 hour drive.”
