Delaware Cross-Country Championship 5K & Final USATF Standings
Delaware Cross-Country Championship 5K results
The last event of the Mid_Atlantic USATF Off-Road Series was held on Saturday, November 29 at Brandywine Creek State Park with the running of the Delaware Cross-Country Championship 5K. PCVRC amassed 334.386 pointed for the race and concluded the series with 1917.586 points in second place. Rosemont Running Club was the first place team and the Pineland Striders finished in third with three other teams in the competition.
All of the competitors in both the road and off-road series should be proud of their accomplishments. To put it into perspective, even though the membership based in our club is probably one of the smaller ones in MA-USATF, PCVRC is the only club to finish in the top three in both series. Rosemont was 1200 points behind PCVRC in the road series. The two clubs which finished higher than PCVRC in the road series, South Jersey Athletic Club and Runaway Success, didn't even field a team for one race in the Off-road series. Pike Creek deserves some recognition for it's versatility and dedication to both series and it will receive it in the form of two checks from MA-USATF at the awards banquet this winter.
One participant, Rich Syzmanski, deserves special recognition for having completed every race in both series, a truly wonderful dedication of time, money and effort.

Mid-Atlantic USATF Final Standings
The MA-USATF results are in from the Philadelphia Marathon races. PCVRC did well and finished in third place in the series. Final totals were South Jersey Athletic Club, 4084.158, Runaway Success, 3847.970 and PCVRC, 3802.341. Greater Philadelphia Track Club and the Pineland Striders also had complete scores, so our club is to be congratulated for holding off these two clubs, considering our current small membership. Six other clubs also competed, but did not score in all races.
In the individual men's competition, James Flanagan was the top scorer with 654.841 points. The top Pike Creek Valley participants were: David James, 3rd, 644.951, Bob Taggart, 7th, 621.869, Dean Coffin, 18th, 550.613, and Rich Syzmanski, 503.227. Dean and Rich will receive plaques for participating in 10 events. Other male club participants were Austin Gee, 36th, Scott Hodukavich, 46th, Lee Kauffman, 59th, Andy Jakubowitch, 73rd, Chris James, 80th, John Schultz, 85th, Phil Lavelle, 87th, Bruck Hubbard, 116th, Jack Horowitz, 130th and Paul Isaac, 283rd. Male club participants in one event only were Enos Benbow, Kyle Lanier, Kareem Lanier, Paul Syzmanski, Paul Schweizer, Dave McCorquodale and Bob Kleszics.
In the individual women's competition, Joy Hampton was top scorer with 682.704 points. The top female club scorer was Theresa Kauffman, 4th, 592.194. Deborah Compton was 20th despite having only done four events. Other women club members were Annel Hessel, 36th, Connie Montana, Tricia Syzmanski, and Kelly Horowitz.
The club thanks everyone who participated. While there were certainly a handful of people who did the bulk of the scoring, fielding complete teams would not have been possible without a group effort.
