Jim Bray recovers, Kelly Horowitz wins, C & D Canal Runfest
Dr. Jim Bray recovers from operation
PCVRC member Dr. Jim Bray had four stents placed in his right coronary artery on Monday morning. His good friend, Jack Horowitz, reports that Jim apparently tolerated the procedure well. Jim is the former Delaware state record holder at 1600 meters(4:16.4 in 1972). He is a frequent participant in the Thursday Rebel Runs at Delcastle Recreation Area and enthusiastically supports people during the longer runs out Creek Rd. from Newark, frequently driving out to the water stop with food and electrolyte fluids.. Leg injuries have hampered Jim in doing any longer runs himself lately.
Kelly Horowitz wins Scott Mackler 5K
Kelly Horowitz was the overall female winner of the Scott Mackler 5K held near Newark early afternoon this past Sunday. She ran a 20:45(6:45 pace) on an extremely hilly course. Kelly warmed up by winning her age-group in the e-racing the Blue 10K that morning and backing off in the E-racing the Blues 5K before driving out to Newark with husband Jack, who also completed all three races.
C & D Marathon Run Fest
In addition to other races, which have been publicized in the News-Journal, the C & D Marathon Run Fest occurs this Sunday, starting in St. Georges, DE. This is the second year for this event and this time half and full marathoners will not have to cross the St. Georges bridge twice as they did last year. The races stay entirely on the north side of the canal. The surface for all races is mostly gravel road along the canal. Marathoners have about four miles of paved road. Currently, the 5K and 10K races each have less than 20 runners with over 100 in the half-marathon and about 50 in the full marathon. Boston Marathon Registration Open
Pike Creek members who intend to register for the Boston Marathon should be aware that this year the field is limited to 25,000. Registration has been open for a month and 8,240 are already registered. While there is no need to rush to register, the BAA anticipates that the field will close out before the official deadline of Feb. 28, 2009. Any qualifying time since Sept. 29, 2007 may be used.
