USATF Masters Championships, Philly Marathon info, Stumpy's Marathon

USATF Masters Championships (NCCWMA) results
From Kareem Lanier:
In the NCCWMA(North America,Central America and Caribbean World Masters Championship), Kyle, Tom Thomasson and I represented the USA Masters Track and Field team in this international track meet in Clermont, at Fla.National Training Center(Aug.28-31).

Kyle won the gold medal in the 800 m, men 35-39 in 2:03.18 and a silver medal in the 1500 m, men 35-39 in 4:23.40.
Kareem won gold in the 8K cross country event, men 35-38 in 31:55.00 and silver in the 5000m, men 35-39 in 17:18.29.
Tom won silver in the 5000m, men 30-34 in 18:13.96.

USATF Off-Road Event cancelled:
Fairmount Park officials have pre-empted use of Belmont Plateau on Saturday, October 18 thereby denying USATF the right to hold the 5k XC Championship race. The Philadelphia Catholic League is rescheduling their events to a Wednesday which obviously won't work for USATF. That race is no longer part of the series this race.

Participants in the USATF Road Series should take note. All three events associated with the Philadelphia Marathon are part of the series and PCVRC needs to field a team for each race. The following was received from USATF. Note that the window for registering for the events may be closing soon!

Mike Thompson, the operations director for the Philadelphia Marathon, provided the below information regarding registration closing in on the limits for each of the races.

"FYI, we have about 1500 spots open in each of the 3 races as of this week. The est. is to close out the full & half around the Distance Run. I think the 8K will remain open through race weekend. Can you pass the word onto the membership. Want to give local runners plenty of opportunity to sign up!!"

Some runners were disappointed last year when the marathon reached its registration number cap approximately three weeks before the race and similarly in the previous year when the Half Marathon closed out on the Friday before the race.

If you're planning on running, don't miss your opportunity to register!
In case you missed the point, if you are running the full or half marathon, register by this weekend!

John Mackenzie, Stumpy's Marathon results, Submit your results!
Although discussing politics is not appropriate in a bulletin about running, congratulations are nevertheless in order for long-time club member, Trail-Dawg founder, Triple Crown race director and Boston Marathon runner John Mackenzie, who won the Democratic primary for State Senate in the sixth district. He will oppose Liane Sorenson in the general election. If you think running a marathon is a long haul, try a political campaign!

Speaking of marathons, yours truly completed Stumpy's Marathon, an informal event put on by the TrailDawgs in Delaware Middle Run Park as well as the Delaware and PA White Clay Creek Park in just under 5:30. Yes, you read correctly. Fellow club member Scott Christensen finished in 5:32. He wore a GPS unit and two different calculations put the actual distance at 26.6 or 28.1 miles. My own guess was 27.5. His information also provided the detail that the run included over 15,000 feet of uphill running and the same amount of downhill running.

Since there are a lot of newer club members, by mentioning my marthon finsih, it reminds me that all club members are encouraged to send me results, particularly of longer distance events. If you are fairly new to running, you are also encouraged to send personal bests and top awards you get in a race. However, I am not willing to print the results of people who run many short races a year; that's what the News-Journal or the Races2Run website will do.
