Club Cookout, Weekly Group Run
Annual PCVRC Cookout 7/16
Happy July 4th to PCVRC members! Here's hoping your patriotic celebrations are a fun time!
This brings to mind the club's own celebration of summer, which is coming up in less than two weeks. On Wednesday, July 16th will be the annual cookout at the Farren's, beginning at 6:30 p.m. It is requested that you R.S.V.P. if you plan to come. E-mail to check to see what covered dish, dessert or snack you can bring. Meats(or vegetarian option) and drinks are on the club. E-mail delawaredave@comcast.net.
Directions to the Farrens: Take I-95 to the Marsh Rd. exit. If going north, proceed straight across Marsh onto Carr Rd. (If going south, take left onto Marsh and then left onto Carr.) Go past Bellevue state Park and Bellevue Corporate Center. Wayne Dr. is the next right and the Farrens live at 26 Wayne Dr. There is usually a large flag out front.
Weekly Club Group Runs
Normally on Wednesdays the club has been having a group run at Delcastle Recreation Center, meeting at the upper parking lot and starting a few minutes after 6:00 p.m. for 1 3/4 mile loops around the park. This past Wednesday seven club members turned out and were introduced to a new 3 and 1/4 mile loop by Lee Kauffman. It is basically the course for races run from St. John the Beloved Church, covering, in addition to the outer sections of the Delcastle loop, roads in Sherwood Parks I and II and the driveway of Brandywine Springs School. This appears to be a much safer course than the longer loop that has been used for many years along McKennans Church, Milltown and Duncan Rds. because traffic is just too heavy these days. More club members are encouraged to join this run and to direct newer runners to join us.
Club members have a break from the USATF events in July, but August will bring the Half-Wit Half-Marathon on Aug. 17 and the Stone Harbor Lions 10K on Aug. 24. For more info on these races, go to: http://www.mausatf.org/.
The end of August will also bring the Sixth Annual McCorq's Friendly Fun Run 5K Handicap Challenge on Thursday, August 28 to start off the Labor Day weekend. But more on that later. Meanwhile enjoy the fourth of July!
