Haddonfield Adrenaline 5K, Shamrock Marathon, Boston-Sendoff
Haddonfield Adrenaline 5K Results
Pike Creek Valley Running Club fielded 12 members to participate in the second event of the Mid-Atlantic USATF Road Series, the Haddonfield Adrenaline 5K. The top five club members accumulated 362+ points to keep the club in fifth place among seven competing teams. While it is somewhat unfortunate that PCVRC has missed several of its top age-graded competitors due to injury, it is a great sign that the club is getting a lot more than the bare minimum of participants. Several times last year the club did not field a complete team of five. Special mention to new club members Austin Gee and Paul Szymanski, who were among the club's top five age-graders. Scott Hodukavich ran a PR and Dean Coffin had his fastest 5K since 2004.
Next up in the USATF Road Series is the Valley Forge Revolutionary Run Five Miler on April 20. It is important to field a team for this race since some clubs may be missing a few top runners who may be participating in the Boston Marathon. See www.revolutionaryrun.org for more information.
The next race in the MA-USATF Off-road Series is the Tyler Trail 10K XC Run on April 5. For more information, see: www.delcorrc.org .

Shamrock Festival of Races recap
The Shamrock Festival of Races took place in Virginia Beach this past weekend. Approximately 18,000 people participated in either the 8K on Saturday and/or the half or full marathon on Sunday. While it was possible to determine before the race what Delaware runners were signed up beforehand, the website does not make a search of all Delaware finishers possible. While there were quite a few people from Delaware, this writer appeared to be the only club member. I finished the marathon in 4:17:10.
A later check with the National Weather Service revealed that during the marathon there was a constant wind of 15 mph, gusting to 22 out of the north. Miles seven to nineteen were run straight into the wind and at the start of this section, along the beach
where high-rise hotels are located, the wind seemed even stronger.
Club members may be interested to know the former Pike Creeker Steve Sinko finished eighth overall in a time of 2:39+. While Steve said that he did not have a good day, in addition to noting the weather conditions, a review of the race splits revealed that Steve ran the second half of the race several minutes faster time the first half. He passed more than a dozen competitors who had run faster in the beginning and apparently caught the ninth place finisher very close to the finish. I say that because when he went past me at mile 24(I was a mile 15), Steve was all alone, possibly a minute behind the next runner.
PARTY TIME!!! Firm plans have now been made by the club for the Boston Send-off Party. It will be held on Wed Apr 16 6:30pm to 8:30+ at the Hunters Den at 3517
Old Capital Trail. This is one of the perks of being a club member- the finger food is free; beverages are on you. If you need directions, type from your location to this site:
