Dean joined Pike Creek in 2005 after moving to Delaware the year before. He’s been a runner since 1998
when he decided to get back into shape (reading between the lines: had let himself turn into a couch potato
and about 30 pounds overweight).
Some day Dean would like to do a marathon, but he has suffered several common runner injuries each time
he’s increased his mileage toward that goal. He has completed 5 half marathons including Caesar Rodney 3
times, the Statue of Liberty race, and the Flo-Jo half in Laguna Hills, CA. Dean’s half marathon PR is
1:33:59 at C.R. in 2008.
Dean enjoys the USA Track & Field series of races, both the Road Grand Prix and the Trail races too.
Dean has volunteered at the club’s Delaware Distance Classic 15K. In 2008 he was appointed by the PCVRC
Board to the open board position of Secretary.
Some of his other community volunteer activities have included fundraising for Juvenile Diabetes, the
March of Dimes, and Cystic Fibrosis. Dean used to be very active with Habitat for Humanity & once received
a volunteer of the year award from the Raleigh chapter. Dean served as race director for the
Claymont 5 Mile Race twice. Each of the last 5 years he has, along with his wife & sons, led a
collection of soda/beer can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House of DE. And Dean has been the coach
for his son’s sports teams many times.
