Rudy Antonini, Jr., 57, has been running seriously since 1981 when his father encouraged him to
start an exercise program in an effort to lose weight.
The first goal Rudy had was to complete the Caesar Rodney Half-Marathon the following year in 1982.
Counting that first one, Rudy has completed 23 C.R.’s as well as 9 marathons, including the Boston
Marathon in 1992. Rudy qualified for Boston by running the Columbus Marathon in November, 1991
in a time of 3:17, his best ever at the 26.2 mile distance.
Rudy graduated from Villanova University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
and also holds a Juris Doctor degree from Widener University. He is married to Marianne and they have
one son, Rudy III, who is now 26 years old and was a former PCVRC Rookie of the Year in 1992.
Rudy is currently employed by the Delaware Department of Labor and is the Chief Appeals Referee for
the Division of Unemployment Insurance. After work, Rudy can be seen most evenings at the Delcastle
Recreation Center where he is one of the “Delcastle regulars” as he runs the 1.75 mile-loop three or
four times with his running buddies.
Rudy is a member of the PCVRC Hall of Fame and has served as President seven times.
He took a break for a few years but is now back as vice-president to offer support and advice to the
Board as well as serve as the unofficial historian. He first joined the Club in 1983 and has been a
member ever since. He enjoys the camaraderie in belonging to PCVRC and has established many long
lasting friendships with those he has been running with over these years. He admits the faces have
changed over the years but there is still the one unifying purpose-enjoying the sport of running.
